No State Execution by COVID-19!
Join the Caravan to San Quentin - May 9th
The Labor Action Committee To Free Mumia Abu-Jamal, along with other organizations and individuals, is calling for a car caravan/protest rally at San Quentin Prison on Saturday May 9th, to demand that the prison system act to prevent prisoners from being infected or killed by this deadly pandemic, due to the overcrowded and unsanitary conditions which are pervasive in US prisons and in immigrant “detention centers.”
We demand the immediate release of all prisoners who are endangered by this virus! The elderly, sick or immune-compromised prisoners are especially vulnerable. In the Marion Ohio lock-up, fully 80 percent of prisoners have tested positive!
In San Quentin, innocent death-row prisoner Kevin Cooper, who was blatantly framed for a crime he did not commit, could die because of inaction on this virus. Cooper currently awaits an overdue order from Governor Gavin Newsom to pursue an investigation of his innocence. Newsom has declared his opposition to the death Penalty, but has continued that threat to Cooper and many other prisoners, due to his inaction on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Join the Caravan!
The action will be held at the West Entrance to San Quentin Prison, which is off Sir Francis Drake Blvd in Larkspur, Marin County. There will be an organizing assembly of participating people/cars at 10 AM on May 9th, at the Larkspur Ferry parking lot, which is 3 minutes away from the prison’s West entrance on Sir Francis Drake Blvd.
The caravan/demonstration will proceed from the Larkspur Ferry parking lot at 11 AM, and last for about two hours. There will be a lead car to follow, and instructions on the route to follow at the 10 AM meet-up at the Larkspur Ferry parking lot. There will be a brief rally/press conference held by a maximum of 10 people at the West entrance to the prison.
Our slogan of unity is “No State Executions by COVID-19”. All organizations and individuals in the action who agree with this central message are invited to join us and display their own slogans at this event.
